Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange data between a website hosting server and a client. Because the data exchanged by the 2 sides is protected, a third party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of handling a website hosting account. The commands which can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for instance, the choices are limited as you will not have root access to the website hosting server, so you can only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They are all actions which are performed within the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the option to install server-side software or to restart the web server or just a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, which you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting

If the cloud hosting plan that you’ve selected during the signup procedure features SSH access as standard, you shall be able to activate this function with simply a mouse click within your Hepsia CP. If you have chosen a different plan, the SSH access function can be included through the Upgrades menu and it will become available immediately. All the info that you need to connect will be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can also set what password to use from the same spot and you'll be able to change it at any time. All of the commands which are permitted are listed inside the Help articles that we've prepared for you, in addition to examples of the syntax that you have to use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files through an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to get SSH access to it with only a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, offered with all accounts. If your plan does not support this feature by default, you'll be able to include it easily through the Upgrades menu. As soon as you go to the SSH section, you shall discover the details that you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter could be updated at any time, if required. These login credentials are also required if you'd like to upload files via a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service that we provide. A comprehensive list of the commands you can execute shall give you a better idea of what tasks you could perform in your account and each one is accompanied by several instances of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS

The virtual private server plans we offer provide SSH access by default, not as an additional upgrade or a feature which you must enable. As soon as your new server is ready, you shall be able to connect and begin working on your content via the login details that you've entered during the order procedure. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via e mail as well. Since your VPS will be isolated from the others on the physical hosting server, there are no limitations in regards to what you can or can't do via SSH. You may download, set up and manage any piece of software which will run on a Linux web server, reboot your entire server or just a certain software component, and work with files, folders and databases with no restrictions. All you'll need for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
